Dual National Aussie Aboard Doomed EgyptAir Flight
The Federal Government says a passenger aboard EgyptAir Flight MS804 which crashed into the Mediterranean Sea who was identified as a UK citizen is actually a dual UK/Australian national.
Fairfax Media reported that a 40-year old mining executive named Richard Osman was the only UK citizen on the plane. He previously worked for a West Australia gold mine. The government is not identifying the Australian passenger, but Foreign Minister Julie Bishop released a statement saying the government is working to provide assistance to the family of the passenger. Ms. Bishop also said, "It is too early to speculate on the cause of this incident," which was refreshing considering how a certain orange-hued fascist demagogue from America rushed to make the tragedy part of his election campaign.
The second day of searching was getting underway in the sea south of the Greek Islands of Crete and Karpathos, but the situation hadn't changed much from the day before: No sign of the plane has been found in the water below the last place the Airbus A320 was last seen on radar by air traffic controllers. Earlier, an Egyptian official said that some debris found floating in the sea south of Karpathos were from Flight MS804; Greek officials later said this was not the case, and the debris found contained materials not found on an A320, such as wood.
66 passengers, crew, and security agents were killed in the crashed of MS804.
