Florida Alligator Takes Little Boy At Disney Resort
Orlando, Florida was struck with a third tragedy in less than a week, when an alligator attacked and dragged off a child into the Seven Seas Lagoon near Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Orange County Sheriff's Deputies were searching for the two-year old boy early on Wednesday morning, just a few hours after the boy's father saw the horrific attack on Tuesday night. Witnesses as well as Florida Fish & Wildlife officials reported that the alligator could have been around two meters long.
There are no signs warning of gators in the area, but there are notices posted against swimming in the man-made lake. Alligators do not normally attack adults, but a toddler is a different matter - especially if a child wanders too close to the waters' edge on any number of lakes and streams.
The Grand Floridian is an upscale luxury resort owned by Disney. It is one of three hotels on the monorail line, just one stop away from the Magic Kingdom Park.
This is Orlando's latest gut-wrenching tragedy. On Saturday night and Sunday morning, gunman Omar Mateen shot and killed 49 people in a LGBT nightclub in the resort city, and injured 53 more before police killed him. On Friday night, a crazed stalker shot and killed up-and-coming pop singer Christina Grimmie after she finished a set at a different Orlando venue; Grimmie's brother tackled the shooter, who then turned the weapon on himself.
