"Love has won and it is time to pop the bubbly," said Greens MP Adam Bandt after Parliament FINALLY passed the Same Sex Marriage bill.

The Public Gallery and the House of Representatives itself burst out in wild applause after Same Sex Marriage bill passed with a clear majority.  Many people joined in on an impromptu sing along of "I am Australian".

According to a statement from Attorney General George Brandis:  "The right to marry in Australia will no longer be determined by sex or gender.  Marriage will now be defined in the Marriage Act 1961 as the 'union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life'.  Same-sex couples now have the same rights under the Marriage Act as all other couples.

"These historic reforms will commence on Saturday December 9, 2017."
