From Boston to Seattle and Atlanta to Los Angeles, thousands of Americans took to the streets to protest the election of racist, sexist, homophobic, fascist demagogue Donald Trump as 45th President of the United States.

In New York and Chicago, the local Socialist Party groups organized rallies that converged on the respective Trump Towers.  Protesters carried signs with the trending hashtag #NotMyPresident, chanting similar slogans such as, "Racist, sexist, anti-gay! Donald Trump must go away!" and "F--- your wall!"   Others cried out against Trump's draconian anti-immigration policies targeting Muslims and people of color, while loudspeakers blared the rap song "FTD (F**k Donald Trump)".

"I came out here to let go of a lot of fear that was sparked as soon as I saw the results," protester Nick Powers said in New York, adding that he deplored Trump's misogyny and support of discredited police tactics like "stop and frisk".

"It's just impossible to even imagine how we can go forward in the coming days or weeks knowing what's to come and knowing that the vision of the world and the changes that a President Trump said he wants to make are truly terrifying," said Edita Birnkrant.

In Chicago, the celebratory mood of the Cubs' World series victory has been dampened by Trump's election in this heavily Democratic city.  "I'm here today because I'm speechless at what happened," said 22-year old Rebecca Gomez.  "I'm Mexican, but I was born in the United States.  I'm afraid people won't care about that, though.  I'm afraid they will be violent."

"I'm a queer woman, and I'm afraid that who I am is under threat," said 24-year old Erin Uttich.  "People have to know that even though the Electoral College chose him, he is not my president," she added.  Indeed, Trump is the fourth person to win the presidency without coming in at the top of the popular vote - Hillary Clinton actually got more votes than Trump, but a byzantine and archaic system known as the electoral college that favors conservative rural areas ensured a Trump win.

Thousands marched through downtown Seattle chanting "not my president" and carrying signs reading "Fight Racism" and "Impeach Drumpy."  Protesters shut down Interstate 5 in both directions in Portland, Oregon, and spray painted the word "impeach" on buildings.

Hundreds of mostly young Latino protesters took to Los Angeles City Hall, chanting: "I will not live in fear," "Fight back, stand up" and "¡Si se puede!" (Spanish for "It can be done").

Earlier in the day, several high schools and colleges reported student walkouts in protest of the incoming Trump presidency.
