Health - Anti-HIV Cocktail Knocks Out Coronavirus
Thailand's health ministry says doctor "cured" a woman of the 2019-nCoV Wuhan Coronavirus using a cocktail of anti-viral drugs usually given to patients with HIV or severe cases of influenza.
Two days after being treated with the drugs oseltamivir with lopinavir and ritonavir, the 71-year old female patients had no sign of the coronavirus in her system.
"The lab result of positive on the coronavirus turned negative in 48 hours," said Dr. doctor Kriengsak Attipornwanich of the Thai Health Ministry. "From being exhausted before, she could sit up in bed 12 hours later."
Thailand so far has detected 19 confirmed cases of the virus believed to have originated in the central Chinese city of Wuhan: Eight patients have recovered and returned home, while eleven remain in hospital. Most of them are Chinese visitors to Thailand, but one is a Thai taxi driver who never traveled to China and likely picked up the virus from Chinese tourists.
