Faulty prostate cancer tests used on dozens of men in South Australia led to one man being given unnecessary radiation treatment, and more than 50 other men were wrongly led to believe their cancers had returned.

A damning report on the false positives released on Monday puts the blame squarely on the shoulders of South Australia's former executive director of Pathology Ken Barr, who was sacked over the incident.  SA Health Minister Health Minister Jack Snelling says government fully accepts the findings of the report, which will lead to a complete overhaul in SA Pathology.  The first significant change is that Mr. Barr got the sack.

"It's quite clear that Ken Barr was simply not up to the job when it came to managing this issue," Mr. Snelling told reporters, "He obfuscated, he did not take immediate and prompt action."  Snelling added, "In fact he took actions to basically hide the issue for a period of time."

The government will consider requests for compensation, should the patients make the request.
