First off, Mama Bear and two Baby Bears take a dip in Lake Tahoe, a large clearwater lake in the mountains straddling California and Nevada.  Foolish humans were not harmed, despite not keep a safe distance.

Two year old chimp loves doing chimp stuff at Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland.

And away we go....

Two Australians, a man and a woman, were among the victims of the stabbing rampage in London.  A 64-year old American woman from Florida was killed, allegedly by a young Norwegian man of Somali origin, in Russell Square.  Two Israeli tourists were also hurt.  But the victims appear to have been chosen at random, and police maintain there's nothing linking the suspect to terrorism - in fact, the attack appears to have been triggered by the young man's mental health issues.

Cops in Brazil used pepper spray and truncheons to disperse hundreds of angry protesters who showed up to greet the Olympic Torch as it was carried into Rio de Janeiro.  Many Brazilians are upset over the cost of hosting the games, which came at the expense of health, education, and services for low income people.  As usual, the cops' response was haphazard and overly broad, forcing families who had just come out to see the torch fleeing from the noxious fumes.

The final word will come out later on Friday, but it appears that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has cleared at least 271 Russia team members to compete in Rio in the Summer Olympics.  This comes despite the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) recommendation that the entire Russian team be banned because of its investigation that uncovered wide-spread, state-sponsored abuse of illegal performance enhancing substances.  Russia's Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov says his country will put forth "the cleanest team" at the games.

BTW, for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo:  The IOC added Karate, Surfing, Skareboard, Softball, and Climbing events.  Sugoi na!  Genki Fight-o!  Ganbaremasu!!!!

Egypt's military says troops killed the head of Islamic State's branch in Sinai during an air raid in the town of El-Arish.  In addition to Abu Duaa al-Ansari, the statement says more than 40 jihadists were killed.  Egypt's been dealing with a growing Islamist insurgency since the military deposed president Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2013, although it was clear at the time that vast majority of the public backed the military.

A gang kidnapped and beheaded a gay Syrian man who lived in Istanbul, Turkey.  Friends say Muhammad Wisam Sankari had been targeted for violence and harassment in the past.  And campaigners complain that homophobia is on the rise in Turkey; not just on the streets, but in the media as well.  Earlier this year, police claimed they were "safeguarding security and public order" when they banned the Gay Pride in Istanbul.

The African National Congress (ANC) faces its worst electoral setback since the end of South Africa's apartheid, as voters display their displeasure with scandal-plagued President Jacob Zuma.  The party of the founder of modern south African is trailing its main rival, the Democratic Alliance, in Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, and Pretoria.  Although the ANC still leads nationally, Zuma is beset with the shadow of corruption, incompetence, and low employment figures.

US Republican Party presidential candidate and fascist demagogue Donald Trump's campaign is now worrying over questions about his Slovenian-born wife's immigration status - which is quite the albatross, considering how Trump has demonized immigrants who didn't have their papers stamped just right.  An earlier interview with former model Melania Trump revealed that she often flew from New York back to Europe to get her visa stamped during the 1990s - something that would not have been necessary had she actually obtained the correct visa for employment as a model.  That would make her an illegal immigrant.  Melania insists she's "legal".  Last week, Trump's campaign scrubbed Melania's website over questions whether she actually completed her  undergraduate degree in architecture from the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, as she claimed, or skipped out after freshman year as the record suggests.

For the first time, a German town has placed the "Wine Queen" crown on the head of a refugee.  26-year old student Ninorta Bahno fled Syria three years ago, and now represents vintners in the area of Trier, in the country's west.  The area is known for those ubiquitous sweet German wines such as Rieslings.  "I want to show that Germany is a welcoming country and that the Germans are very hospitable and work towards integrating refugees quickly and successfully," Ms. Bahno told the state broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
