India's Parliament passed a law outlawing so-called "Triple Talaq" divorce, which has been used in Islamic communities but is not part of the Quran.  More of a folk practice from the Arabian peninsula that was spread alongside Islam over the centuries, it allows men to divorce their wives on the spot merely by repeating the word "divorce (talaq)" three times.  The Indian Supreme Court struck down the practice two years ago on the basis it horribly discriminates against women.  "An archaic and medieval practice has finally been confined to the dustbin of history!" tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "This is a victory of gender justice and will further equality in society."  Critics accused Modi's government BJP party of using the law to suppress Muslim identity.

A wife of the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum is seeking orders of protection from a London court and custody of that children.  Princess Haya Bint al-Hussein has been hiding out in London after fleeing the Dubai royal court and is said to be in fear of her life.  The Sheikh is asking for custody of his children with his sixth wife to be sent home to him.  Two daughters of Maktoum fled the billionaire's highly secure home, only to be recaptured by security agents and forcibly repatriated - hidden from public eye, their fates unclear.

Black lawmakers in the US state of Virginia boycotted Donald Trump's speech marking the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown colony in protest of the past couple weeks of his blatantly racist attacks on Democratic lawmakers.  Virginia state lawmaker Ibraheem Samirah didn't boycott - instead, he unfurled a sign reading "Deport Hate" in protest of Trump's policies of concentration camps for undocumented immigrants, and "Go back to your corrupted home" referring to Trump Tower in New York City.  "You can't send us back.  Virginia is our home," said Mr. Samirah said before he was escorted out by police.  Trump didn't say anything to the protester standing right in front of him, which stands in contrast to the ferocity of his long distance attacks on social media.

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) suspended two agents at Miami's airport over a blatantly racist display.  African American workers complained the two hung two gorilla dolls from nooses, and supervisors tried to play down the obvious message.  The case was brought to the public attention, and all of a sudden TSA in Washington, DC got involved.  "TSA does not tolerate racist or offensive behavior and those found responsible will be held accountable for their actions," the agency said in a statement.  Such crude displays have become increasingly more common in Donald Trump's America, with the perpetrators learning the hard way that anti-discrimination rules are still in place and acting like the current occupant of the White House doesn't work in real life.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police are calling off part of the search for the suspected killers of NSW man Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend.  Mounties say they cannot confirm the reported sighting of suspects Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky, who are already charged in the murder of a Vancouver university professor, in the area of York Landing, Manitoba.  Instead, the search will resume around the last place the teens were seen: Gillam, Manitoba which is situated near several indigenous reservations.
