The election the entire world is watching is underway in the United States. The final round of polling indicates that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has a small but solid lead. Likewise, early voting totals from the previous weeks give the advantage to the former Secretary of State and New York Senator over the bloated, bellowing, failed businessman and reality TV star Donald Trump whose Trump Tower in Toronto is going under and whose Taj Mahal Casino went bust last month, underlining what an absolute fiscal threat he represents to America and the world.
Trump was loudly booed as he arrived at his local polling place in New York City to cast his ballot alongside soon-to-be ex-wife Melania. Cuz he's a schmuck. Inside, the control freak looked over his wife's shoulder to make sure she wasn't voting for Hillary, as did his son (is that Uday or Qusay? I can't tell) because their marriages are such that they don't trust their partners. People yelled, "New York hates you!" as he left.
A judge in Nevada refused the Trump campaign's request to discount the early ballots cast in a predominantly Latino district near Las Vegas. Trump claimed poll workers kept the station open past its 8:00 PM closing time to aid Democratic turnout. The judge ruled there's no evidence of that, and Nevada law clearly states that anyone in line at closing time gets to vote. The judge also refused a more insidious and vile request from Trump's attorney - to publicize the names of the poll workers at the place in question. The judge said there's no legal reason to do so, and it would only invite harassment from Internet stalkers.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton conducted herself with professionalism and dignity appropriate to the office for which she is vying. No clown stunts, no sore loser hijinx.
Seriously, I thought Samuel L. Jackson already dealt with this.
Officials in Fukuoka, Japan have sealed off a section of the city's downtown near super-busy Hakata Station after a mammoth sinkhole opened up at an intersection, one big enough to threaten the structural integrity of all of the high-rise buildings around it. This gaping chasm is at least 20 meters in width and depth. "An accident like this is unheard of, one that should not have happened," Fukuoka Mayor Soichiro Takashima said. "We must prevent secondary accidents, and will do our utmost to restore important infrastructure," he added. It's believed this was caused by extension work on the city's subway.
India is abolishing 500 and 1,000 Rupee banknotes to combat rampant corruption, drug dealing and other organized crime, and counterfeiting. "Black money and corruption are the biggest obstacles in eradicating poverty," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who believes the move will bring billions in hidden income and assets back into the mainstream economy.
Police in Portugal arrested 20 neonazi scum in a nationwide investigation into attempted murders and other hate crimes from 2013 to 2015. Prosecutors in Lisbon said those detained are members of a group of morons calling themselves Hammerskin Nation, a neo-Nazi bonehead group based in Dallas, Texas, which sought to export its anti-immigration garbage to other countries.
The Dreamworld amusement park in Queensland is permanently closing and dismantling the Thunder River Rapids ride, where four people were killed in an accident a fortnight ago. "The closure of the ride is the only respectful and appropriate course of action," read the statement from Ardent Leisure chief executive officer and managing director, Deborah Thomas.
New York City police are investigating the death of a 63-year old man at the Russian Consulate, found with a big ol' head wound. The diplomatic mission's staff claimed the man had died of a "heart attack".
A worker at a Canadian lab is in self-imposed quarantine after possibly being exposed to the Ebola virus. The scientist was working with pigs exposed to the virus, but noticed a tear in the protective suit. Officials offered the worker a vaccine used in clinical trials in Africa, and will monitor the worker for the next 21 days, which is the incubation period for the oft-deady virus.
Haiti began a widespread anti-Cholera immunization drive. Health officials want to vaccinate 820,000 in the first week. Haiti had every other problem under the sun, but Cholera had been eradicated for decades - until United Nations peacekeepers brought it back to the island after the killer 2010 Earthquake. Since then, the disease has killed more than 10,000 people, with a slight uptick after last month's hurricane.
