Would have ever thought that handing a loaded Uzi machine gun to a nine-year old child would have unexpected consequences? Because of America’s insane obsession with shooting things, a firearms instructor is dead and a 9-year old girl will have to live with her role in killing the man.
The “Burgers and Bullets” shooting range at the “Last Stop” tourist attraction near the Grand Canyon advertises a deal in which customers for some reason come in for lunch and the chance to shoot any of 20 available fully automatic weapons.
“Our guests have the opportunity to fire a wide range of fully automatic machine guns and specialty weapons,” the website claims. “At our range, you can shoot FULL auto on our machine guns. Let ‘em Rip!”
The girl was vacationing with her parents, and fired an automatic 9-millimeter Israeli-made Uzi machine gun as she stood near the instructor. 39-year-old Charles Vacca was hit in the head at least once.
“The guy just dropped,” said Mohave County Sheriff Jim McCabe, who released video of the incident (with the kill shot edited out). They airlifted Vacca to Las Vegas for treatment, but it wasn’t enough.
Arizona law prohibits minors from possessing a firearm unless they are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an instructor. Two of those criteria were met. Didn’t seem to work.
“Burgers and Bullets”’ YouTube page is still open, promising fun for the whole family.
