As Argentina prepares for a protest march of the mysterious death of a prosecutor Alberto Nisman, who accused the government of a cover up in the country’s worst terrorist attack.  And the same time, the Foreign Minister is cautioning the United States and Israel not to meddle in Argentina’s internal affairs.

FM Hector Timerman did not specifically mention the Nisman case in letters written to his counterparts in Washington and Israel, letters which he read aloud at a news conference.

“Argentina is observing with great concern the increasing frequency with which many countries are used as stages for the intervention of other states to set out disputes in function of their own geopolitical interests,” Timerman read from the letter to John Kerry.  “My country rejects these actions and tries to ensure they do not happen in its territory.”  A near-identical letter was sent to the foreign minister of Israel.

Timerman also says that his country has no geo-political interests in the Middle East, and requested that the US directly ask Iran about the 1994 AMIA Jewish community center bombing in which 85 people died as part of multinational nuclear talks with Iran.

Nisman accused President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner of trying to cover-up Iranian involvement in the bombing in order to further a grain-for-oil deal with Tehran.  No evidence of any such deal has been produced, and Argentina secures its energy needs on the international market like any other country.  But Nisman was soon found dead in his apartment of a gunshot wound, and it didn’t take long for the conspiracy theories to take flight.

A group of prosecutors who demand the truth about Nisman’s death organized Wednesday’s silent march through Buenos Aires.  However, the Fernandez government is calling hijinx, because opposition parties will be taking part as well.

Security Secretary Sergio Berni says he respects the planned demonstration, but agrees it’s a politically-motivated move against the Fernandez government.  Berni adds that federal agents near the demonstration will not carry weapons because “there could be provocations”.
