Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kircher (CFK) lashed out at the prosecutor who was found dead on Sunday, shortly after accusing her of stifling the investigating into the country’s most notorious terrorist attack. CFK wondered if the dead man had allied himself with forces ought to weaken her government.
In a letter on her Facebook page, CFK wondered if prosecutor Alberto Nisman had been part of an effort to “sidetrack, lie, cover-up and confuse” attempts to finally resolve the case. La Nacion newspaper linked Nisman to a powerful former spy named Antonio Stiusso, whose career began during the dictatorship but who had recently been ousted by CFK, and suggested American involvement.
The 51-year old Nisman was found dead on Sunday. He was in his 13th storey apartment – which had been locked from the inside, a gun and spent bullet casing lying next to him in the bathroom. This happened days before he was supposed to start producing some evidence of his accusations against CFK, accusing her of interfering with his investigation into the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center to further a deal to buy Iranian oil. The bombing has long been suspected of being the work of Iran and its allies in Hezbollah.
