Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is condemning an explosives attack that killed two people and injured more than 20 more near an anti-government rally in Bangkok.  It came a few hours after another deadly attack on an anti-government rally that killed a five-year-old girl.

Yingluck said the attacks were “terrorist acts for political gain,” said her government would not tolerate terrorism, and ordered a full investigation.

In the Bangkok attack, the explosion occurred near a major intersection that protesters had blocked for several weeks.  A 12-year old boy and a 40-year old woman were killed, and 22 people are wounded.  Earlier on Saturday, attackers in two pickup trucks opened fire at an anti-government rally near a late-night noodle market.

The protest leaders have reportedly said they will not negotiate with the democratically elected government, and continue to block some roads and try to stifle government operations.  They have also reportedly said they want to replace democratically elected government with an appointed ruling council of “good people”.

The stalemate is increasingly angering the “red shirts”, the hard-core supporters of the government, who fought and died to have their votes counted in the 2008-2010 uprising.
