Spanish authorities have remanded a British father into custody after he beat up a man that he caught using a tablet to record video images of his daughter. The man later died in hospital. But the same man had an earlier brush with police that’s more disconcerting.
This happened at the at Spinnaker restaurant in Sotogrande, an exclusive resort on southern Spain’s Costa del Sol. Witnesses say 40-year old Kainth Davinder saw the other man – identified as 43-year old German tourist Sandro Rottman – acting suspiciously with his iPad. Davinder snatched the device and found images of his young daughter. Davinder then allegedly punched Rottman, knocking him out, and left with his family. Rottman was taken to hospital in La Linea but later died there.
But Spanish detectives have since revealed that they arrested Rottman last month for possession of indecent images of children. Rottman was awaiting trial.
The local Guardia Civil said, “We believe (Rottman) died as a result of the single punch he received but this is yet to be confirmed by the post-mortem results.” Davinder allegedly asked Rottman on several occasions to stop filming his daughter – believed to be younger than eight-years old – but the German persisted, the spokeswoman added. Davinder probably knew nothing of Rottman’s earlier arrest.
Davinder is British but owns a home in the posh resort. The UK Foreign Office says it is ready to provide consular assistance if requested.
