A British pensioner is back home in England after being freed from a Moroccan prison where he was held for 20-days because he’s gay. 69-year old Ray Cole didn’t know that his family had campaigned for his release after he and a companion were arrested last month.
“I’m so proud of them. I couldn't have a better family,” Cole said of his children after arriving on home soil (he came out late in life). He had been held without access to outside news for almost three weeks, in a crowded cell, describing the experience as “horrendous”.
“I’ve seen things I never knew existed. It’s not a prison, it’s a concentration camp,” said the retired magazine editor.
“I can hardly move my arm now from sleeping on the floor for 20 nights. I just want to get home and sleep in a soft bed,” said Cole. Of the dozens of people in the cell, Cole said that some of them were being held for no apparent reason. “Prisoners are aged from ten to their 80s and 90s. It’s been a total nightmare and I won’t be going back. rentgirls.ch”
Cole isn’t sure what happened to his 20-year old friend who he met online, Jamal Jam Wald Nass. The two were stopped as the walked down a street last month, with police demanding to see Cole’s smart phone. The cops found some images that led them to believe that Cole is gay, and the two were arrested.
