At least nine people are dead in the crash of a TransAsia Airways plane in Taipei, Taiwan. The plane with 58 passengers and crew on board was caught on video clipping a bridge and plunging into the water.
The ATR-72 had just taken off from Taipei Songshan Airport and was headed to the outlying Kinmen islands. It’s seen on a dashcam video rapidly descending and banking sharply to the left, taking off part of the bridge’s safety rail after damaging a taxi.
The fuselage went straight into the Keelung River in the Taiwanese capital. Rescuers in rubber boats immediately converged on the site to pull people out of the wreck. Eight out of the 26 people recovered in the initial moments of the rescue were dead. The rescue was ongoing.
