Saying that Scott Morrison has “blood on his hands”, the Federal Opposition is putting pressure on the Immigration Minister over his handling of the Manus Island riot and the conflicting statements he made about the death of an asylum seeker.  At least one senator wants Morrison to resign.

Just after the melee, Morrison insisted the violence occurred outside the perimeters of the immigrant detention center and berated reporters who contradicted him.  But over the weekend, he issued a statement saying:  “I wish to confirm that contrary to initial reports received, I have received further information that indicates that the majority of the riotous behaviour that occurred, and the response to that behaviour to restore order to the centre, took place within the perimeter of the centre.”

Asylum seeker Reza Berati was killed and 77 people were injured.  And it wasn’t just the incorrect information that’s chafing the opposition; it’s the way that it’s incorrect.  Critics believe Morrison sought to blame the immigrants for the violence to which they were subjected.

“I’d like to see Morrison step down,” Senator Doug Cameron told ABC news, adding, “I’d like to see someone with a bit of compassion in there as well.”

Cameron’s West Australia Labor colleague Sue Lines said, “Does Scott Morrison have blood on his hands? He definitely has blood on his hands.”
