The Australian woman who at one point faced a possible death penalty in China for alleged drug smuggling has returned home to Oz. 22-year old Kalynda Davis was expected to appear in court later this week, but her family announced that she was home.
“We have always known Kalynda to be innocent of these allegations. Her return home today is a clear statement of her innocence,” read a statement from Kalynda’s parents.
David and 25-year old Richmond man Peter Gardiner were stopped at the Airport in Guangzhou, allegedly with 75 kilograms of methamphetamines in their luggage. Why Kalynda was released is not clear, although Fairfax media reports that it is believed Foreign Minister Julie Bishop went to bat for Davis with Chinese officials.
It is believed that Gardiner is still in custody in China, and is in a lot of trouble. blackjack with leroy troy
“To the family of Mr. Peter Gardner, we will continue to pray for Peter and your family,” continued the statement from the Davis family. “You are always in our thoughts.”
