Remember back in May when journalists were chasing the video reputedly showing Toronto’s conservative mayor Rob Ford (allegedly) smoking crack with a known drug dealer?  Reporters never found it.  But now it turns out that Police did.

Toronto police say they have recovered a mobile-phone video showing Mayor Rob Ford (allegedly) smoking from a crack pipe, from a hard-drive seized during “project traveler”, a yearlong police investigation into a Toronto street gang.

Despite (allegedly) being caught red-handed in a series of lies, the mayor of Canada’s largest city is refusing to step aside.

“I have no reason to resign.  I’m going to go back and return my phone calls, I’m going to be out doing what the people elected me to do and that’s save taxpayers money and run a great government that we’ve been running for the last three years.  Again, that’s all I can say,” Ford told the raucous news conference.

Despite being the only big city, first-world mayor on the entire freaking planet to be caught jowls deep in the world of drugs and corruption, despite years of bizarre behavior and public drunkenness, supporters say it’s too early to judge Ford.  There's nothing in Canadian law to force his ouster.  And police appear to be in no hurry to rattle any cages.

“There is nothing on that video that would support the laying of criminal charges,” said Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair of the video that at the very least shows the porcine mayor cavorting with drug dealers.
