Roman Catholic Church officials are denying claims that its recently recalled envoy to the Dominican Republic is accused of child sex abuse.  But officials are refusing to shed any further light on the sudden ouster of Archbishop Jozef Wesolowski.

Catholic officials in the Dominican Republic are framing it as an administrative matter.

“Church authorities are always evaluating on an annual basis every priest. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a criminal matter,” said local church spokesman Rev. Manuel Ruiz.  But when pressed about specifics, Ruiz briskly replied, “You will have to ask the Pope.”

Earlier, Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado, the rector of a Catholic university in the Dominican Republic, said an internal church report last month connected Wesolowski with child abuse and pedophilia.

DR Prosecutors say they’ve received no allegations about Wesolowski.  But they are investigating Wojciech Gil, a priest suspended by his religious order in the rural parish of Juncalito in May after local residents accused him of molesting altar boys.
