Good Morning Australia! - The world races to stop another African genocide - Vladimir Putin makes a delightfully vulgar joke about Turkey - "Pharma Bro" isn't smiling after being arrest for financial corruption - And more in your CareerSpotWorld News Briefs:

The African Union says it will not allow another genocide on the continent, warning that violence in Burundi must stop.  And the UN is sending a mission to Burundi to monitor the worsening situation.  UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein said that "Burundi is at bursting point, on the very cusp of a civil war" which could have "ethnic overtones" .  The trouble began in April when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced he'd run for a third term in office, which opponents said was unconstitutional.  Several riots, a coup attempt, and a highly questionable election later, Nkurunziza got his extra term but the deadly violence has not stopped.  Earlier this week, opponents accuse troops of carrying out extra-judicial killings of political rivals.

Libya took a step towards stability, as rival politifians signed a UN-brokered deal to form a unity government.  The heads of the opposing parliaments - one Islamist, one previously-recognized by the world community - refused to sign, and armed groups holding territory weren't part of the negotiations.  Even though it's a small step, bringing peace to Libya is crucial to the international community because of the number of refugees coming from and through the country to Europe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's annual news conference had no shortage of quotables.  Mr Putin: Admitted for the first time that Russian military members were involved on the battlefield with Ukraine separatists; said that bigoted, xenophobic billionaire and republican candidate for the US presidency Donald Trump is "outstanding" and "talented" and would get along fine with the Kremlin; belittled Turkey for downing a Russian SU-24 warplane last month, stating that Ankara "decided to lick the Americans in a certain place".  Ooooooh my!

The Turkish army says it killed 25 members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) over two days in an operation in the restive southeast.  The operation took place in the mainly-Kurdish town of Cizre and in the province of Sirnak near the Syria-Iraq border.  President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is using more chilling rhetoric, promising to "cleanse" the area of militants from the Kurdish population.

America's "Pharma Bro" wasn't wearing his trademark self-satisfied smile when Federal Agents arrested him on Thursday morning for alleged securities fraud.  In fact, he actually looked really, really worried as cops perp-walked him past reporters.  Before, Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli grinned through international revulsion over his raising of the price of an HIV-treating drug by 5,000 percent.  Feds accuse him of using his previous gig at a hedge fund as a piggybank to pay unrelated personal debts.

Hey, remember that video from yesterday of Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy getting punched the face?  Here it is again.  Bam.

The government of Argentina's new conservative President Mauricio Macri is investigating the 87-year old president of "Grandmothers of the Square", the group that helps reunite families with the children stolen by the fascist junta of the 1970s and '80s.  Hebe de Bonafini called for protests against Mr. Macri and his neoliberal policies, and used slogans such as "not one step backwards, to resist is to fight".  Authorities accuse her of "inciting collective violence”".

Argentina's Peso plunged against the US Dollar after the administration of conservative new President Mauricio Macri lifted limits on the buying of foreign currencies.  It could exacerbate already soaring prices and spook Argentinians, who fear big changes to an economy that has suffered through periodic financial meltdowns.  Macri's government claims currency controls hurt businesses at home and scared away would-be international investors.

So, let's see.. the first week of Macri's adminsitration has including tax cuts, currency devaluation, media consolidation in the hands of the uber-wealthy, and threatening little old ladies.  Doesn't look too promising.
