Police and regulators are reportedly investigating an Australian charity for alleged links to Islamic State.  This comes after one of its Australian-Lebanese – Ibrahim Barakat – was arrested by Lebanese authorities on charges of fundraising for jihadists, recruiting for IS and fighting against the Lebanese army.  The charity, Dar al Quran wa Sunnah, was ostensibly set up to help Syrian orphans.  Oz isn’t confirming the investigation, but an official quoted by the ABC said that the Lebanese allegations are exactly the sort of thing that would trigger a probe.

The scumbags of Islamic State released photographs showing militants destroying statues and artifacts from the ruins of Palmyra, the ancient caravan city in Syria that the militants occupied earlier this year.  It fits the pattern of the militants’ professed disgust with graven, pagan imagery

A US drone killed a senior Islamic State leader in an attack in Syria last month.  The US Defense Department on Thursday confirmed that Tariq Bin-al-Tahar Bin al Falih al-Awni al-Harzi was a top fundraiser for the radical Islamist group – until 16 June, when the drone hit its mark in the town of Shaddadi.  Al-Harzi acted as a go-between with wealthy gulf donors.

Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis says he will resign if the people vote to accept the terms of the IMF’s and Europe’s conditions on continuing the bailout in Sunday’s referendum.  But, he says it that happens, the difficult negotiations will have to start from scratch because the European creditors will be dealing with his successor.  In Athens, thousands of members of the Communist KKE Party marched against the referendum itself, saying that Greece needs to leave the European Union – not just accept or reject IMF demands to slash elderly peoples’ pensions to pay back the banksters.  Naturally, the cops gassed that rally.

At least 38 people are dead after a ferry loaded with 189 passengers and crew capsized a couple of hundred meters off Ormoc City, Leyte in the Philippines.  134 people were rescued. Meaning that several are still missing.  Survivors said the bow of the ferry suddenly rose up from the water and the vessel flipped over on one side, turning it upside down and trapping passengers.  Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Armand Balilo said the vessel was lashed by strong waves and that the crew might have performed the “wrong maneuver” to compensate.

The pilot of the TransAsia plane that crashed into a river in Taiwan last year shut down the wrong engine before the disaster.  The latest report from Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council (ASC) says one engine failed; then, 41-year old Captain Liao Jian-zong was heard to say, “Wow, pulled back on the wrong side throttle,” on the cockpit voice recorder.  The plane crash – caught on automobile dashcam video showing the ATR turboprop careening across a highwaykilled 43 people, with 15 people surviving.
