Good Morning Australia! - Harsh words for Tony after he appeared to throw shade on other cultures - Taliban killers claim dozens of lives in Kandahar - What do you think of a President that actually helps collect the trash? - And more in your CareerSpot World News Briefs:
Indonesia's ambassador Nadjib Riphat Kesoema has some choice words for former PM Tony Abbott who recently called for a "revolution" within Islam and declared that "cultures are not all equal", presumably meaning that his (whatever that might be) is better. "This is a time when all nations must unite to defeat the scourge of terrorism," said Ambassador Nadjib Riphat Kesoema, "A rhetoric boasting of cultural and religious superiority over other cultures and religions is unhelpful to the cause and divisive."
US presidential candidate and racist, fascist demagogue Donald Trump declared that he will never leave the 2016 race despite increasing calls for him to step aside. His recent comments about banning Muslims from entering the US have drawn widespread condemnation. Those comments follow his mocking of a disabled reporter, which followed his call for mob action against a #blacklivesmatter protester, which followed his criticism of Seventh day Adventists, which followed his citing flawed crime statistic from white supremacy hate groups.. and all this was in a campaign that began with Trump declaring that Mexican immigrants to the US were killers and rapists. First they came....
Germany's so-called "Nazi Bride" broke her silence in her trial on Wednesday. Beate Zschaepe denied charges of being the lone survivor of a neo-nazi group that killed ten people - mainly Turkish immigrants - during racially motivated murders, bomb attacks, and robberies over a decade. Critics blast the police for not even knowing about the cell until two members died in a bungled robbery in 2011.
Mexico will begin using the world's first Dengue fever vaccine, developed by the French pharmaceutical Sanofi. Some 40,000 people between the ages of nine and 49 will receive the treatment in Mexico in the first phase, all living in areas where Dengue is endemic. The company says the vaccine will guard against four different kinds of the mosquito-borne tropical and sub-tropical disease.
Afghanistan says at least 35 people were killed in a Taliban attack on the airport at Kandahar, but the number is disputed by hospital officials who told Al Jazeera that 70 people were killed including women and children. Taliban fighters targeted a residential compound and military bases at the airport, which is used by Afghan, US and NATO military forces. The terrorists held a number of hostages as they engaged in a tense firefight with security officials.
Syrian rebels are evacuating the last suburb of Homs they held, under a cease fire deal with the government of President Bashar Al-Assad. About 700 people, including rebel fighters and civilians, are due to depart throughout Wednesday. The deal is a boost for Assad, because Homs was the first major city to hold anti-government protests in 2011, uprisings that turned into the full Syrian Civil war.
Does your national leader do this? The new president of Tanzania got down in the gutter with hundreds of residents in a clean-up of the capital Dar es Salaam. John Magufuli scooped up armfuls of rubbish from the street outside State House as part of the scheme, which he had ordered to replace independence day celebrations. "Let us work together to keep our country, cities, homes and workplaces clean, safe and healthy," said President Magufuli, who canceled the country's traditional Independence Day military parade and ceremonies in favor of the clean-up. He says he'd rather use that money on battling the country's Cholera outbreak.
