Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is asking the constitutional court to put a stop to the Catalan region's independence drive.  The Catalan parliament on Monday passed a resolution directing the assembly to produce within 30 days legislation on a Catalan constitution, treasury and social security system.  Mr. Rajoy, a conservative facing reelection, accuses the pro-secessionists of "trying to do away with democracy", and threatened to suspend the political powers of 21 key separatist political figures.

The official results from Myanmar's election are still not in, but President Thein Sein has congratulated Aung San Suu Kyi's opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) party on its success in last weekend's election.  The indications are that the NLD is running away with a landslide.  Ms. Suu Kyi has written to military and rival political leaders requesting discussions on national reconciliation, and Mr. Thein Sein is indicating her's ready to talk.

Suspended FIFA president Sepp Blatter will wake up in hospital when Thursday rolls around to Switzerland, after what has been called a "small emotional breakdown".  Blatter was suspended for 90 days amid a Swiss criminal case relating to the massive corruption scandal in the world football body which he has led for 18 years.  The 79-year old is expected to make a full recovery.

Afghan police fire shots in the air over thousands of protesters in Kabul, injuring several people.  The crowd is angry over the killings of seven ethnic Hazaris in the southern province of Zabul.  It's not entirely clear who murdered the seven, some of whom were found with their throats slit, but the protesters blamed the Taliban and Islamic State as well as teh government for failing to protect them.  The Hazari have long been a persecuted minority in Afghanistan.

Police have increased patrols at the University of Missouri after a racists threats to randomly shoot African American students, and the arrest of an ignorant smelly redneck idiot.  "Mizzou" is where the President and Chancellor were forced to step down in the face of widening student protests over their perceived inaction regarding racist incidents on campus.  Authorities arrested 19-year-old Hunter Park after his posts to the social media website "YikYak" in which he threatened to "shoot every black person" he sees at Mizzou.  YikYak cooperated with police to bring in the moron.  Class attendance was low on Wednesday, and shops in the college town were pretty much deserted.

While EU and African leaders meet on Malta to try and resolve the refugee and migrant crisis, another 14 migrants drowned not too far away, trying to make the crossing from Turkey to the Greek isle of Lesbos.  EU leaders are expected to offer African countries a 1.8 Billion Euro trust fund, in exchange for help with the migrant crisis.  African leaders want an easier path for smaller numbers of their citizens to migrate legally to Europe.
