Good Morning, Australia! – Haters vs Bigots in Texas: Should we feign surprise that three people got shot? – Netanyahu apologizes to an Ethiopian Jewish Soldier – The new Princess gets a name – And a lot more in your CareerSpot World News Briefs:

Charlotte.  That’s the name given to the brand new daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.  Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born on Saturday, weighing in at 3.7 kilograms (eight pounds, 3 ounces).  The first name Charlotte is said to be preferred by Kate Middleton’s family and carries no royal baggage – while Elizabeth and Diana obviously refer William’s Grandmother and Mother, respectively.

Francesca Marina.  That’s the name given to a baby girl born to a woman on an immigrant ship intercepted by Italy’s coast guard in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday.  The coast guard rescued some 7,000 immigrants on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  Human traffickers in Libya took advantage of the good weather to launch at least 34 boats with an average of more than 200 people each, all looking to escape the war, oppression, corruption, and economic stagnation of sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.

Texas authorities identified both gunmen killed outside a contest to draw cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad – they are Elton Simpson, who had popped up on American terrorist watchlists in the past and purportedly had contact with Middle Eastern terrorist groups; and Simpson’s roommate Nadir Soofi.  Both came from Phoenix, Arizona, another US state with stunningly permissive gun laws.  Police say they showed up outside the convention center in the Dallas suburb of Garland with assault rifles and opened fire, wounding a security guard.  Police returned fire, killing both men.

The Mayor of Garland, Texas says he wishes that the cartoon contest had just stayed in New York City, where its organizers were based.  Mayor Douglas Athas notes that it was overwhelmingly out-of-towners attending the event, which chose to inflame religious tensions while cowering behind America’s constitutionally enshrined Freedom of Speech.  He notes that Garland was recently named the ninth-most diverse cities in the US, where 114 languages are spoken.

Meanwhile in Yemen, a Saudi airstrike on Sana’a airport left a plane burning on the runway.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the Israeli Defense Force soldier beaten by police for the color of his skin.  The video of cops assaulting Israeli soldier Damas Fekade sparked outrage in the Ethiopian Israeli community, which has long complained of discrimination and police violence.  “We must stand together as one against the phenomenon of racism, to denounce it and eliminate it,” Netanyahu said.  On Sunday night, police clashed with Ethiopian Jews in Tel Aviv, breaking up a protest with water cannons, tear gas, and stun grenades.

A far-right Israeli political party is bailing out of coalition talks with Netanyahu’s Likud Party, just before the Wednesday deadline.  Israel’s foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman of the ultranationalist Yisrael Beiteinu is upset that Netanyahu will not publicly commit to expanding Jewish settlements in Palestinian areas.  He’s taking six Knesset seats with him, leaving Netanyahu with a wafer-thin majority of 61-seats – meaning that the PM will be forced to cut more deals with coalition partners in order to maintain power.

France’s far-right Front National party suspended its founder, flaming anti-Semite Jean-Marie Le Pen for comments belittling the Holocaust and praising nazi-occupied Vichy France.  Under his daughter Marine Le Pen, the FN has managed to gain some respectability in middle class France by toning down the holocaust denial and replacing it with anti-Muslim and anti-Immigrant rhetoric.  A fascist by any other name is still a stinking fascist.

Video is now getting out of Nepal’s Langtang National Park, where hundreds of trekkers were caught during the 25 April earthquake.  One town that hosted 55 hotels and guesthouses is gone, buried under a sheet of mud and ice with no signs that it ever existed except the one remaining structure.  People also uploaded very compelling videos of what purports to be the quake in progress in Langtang, although I can’t authenticate them.  The death toll from the disaster is more than 7,300 lives lost.

Despite earlier claims, Mount Everest is almost surely not going to open to climbers this season.  The government in Nepal says all of the trails are destroyed, blocked by boulders, rocks, and huge sheets of ice.  Several mountaineering firms have already cancelled this year’s climbs.
