Hello Australia!! - Corporate America tells Sepp Blatter to step down - The Vatican pushes back hard on the gay-hating Kentucky clerk - Moose meets Drone - And a lot more in your CareerSpot World News Briefs:
Four major sponsors are telling FIFA's embattled leader Sepp Blatter to step down. Coca Cola, McDonald's, Budweiser, and VISA came out one after the other in what suggested was a coordinated effort to put pressure on the world football body's executive; Coca-Cola said,"Every day that passes, FIFA's image and reputation continues to tarnish." But the 79-year old Blatter dug in, and vowed to stay on until until February 2016. Last week, Swiss prosecutors opened criminal proceedings against Blatter, accused of signing a contract that was "unfavorable to FIFA" and making a "disloyal payment" to the European group.
The Vatican firmly and methodically distanced Pope Francis from Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, who claimed to have met the Pope in Washington, DC last month and that the pontiff endorsed her efforts to deny marriage licenses to same sex couples. The Vatican press office put out a release making it clear that Davis was in a group of a dozen people; the two at no point discussed his specific situation; and the Pope's "meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position". Davis went to jail for five days for refusing to give marriage licenses to gay couples in her lousy, flea-bitten rat's nest of a crap hole in rural Kentucky.
The Vatican release went further to point out that Pope Francis only granted one "real audience" in Washington, to a small group that included a gay couple. Yayo Grassi was a student of the former Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, and he was given a warm welcome by Francis - as was Yayo's partner of 19 years. They even shot video. But Mr. Grassi was quick to point out that this was a meeting of old friends from Argentina who've kept in touch over the years, and has nothing to do with anyone's political agenda in the United States.
So, how did Kim Davis even get into the same room as the Pope? The culprit appears to be Vatican Ambassador to the US Archbishop Carlo Vigano, appointed to the position by Pope Benedict XVI, and a veteran right-wing culture warrior. While Francis was turning heads with remarks about LGBT people such as, "Who am I to judge?", Vigano was appearing at anti-LGBT rallies in America alongside evangelicals and other conservatives. There is growing speculation that Vigano extended the invitation to Davis without the Vatican's knowledge, possibly as part of a broader struggle between Francis and his reforms, and the Benedict loyalists who've been horrified at the Catholic Church's new emphasis on serving the poor instead of fighting abortion and gay marriage.
In other words.. it might have been a dirty trick. So, remember the name Carlo Vigano, a long-time Vatican provocateur. Let's see if Loki pulled one too many pranks, and he meets the same fate as Cardinal Raymond Burke.
Well, the Vatican game of thrones has been fun, but let's go back to the corporeal world. It's where I keep my stuff.
