Hello Australia!! - Hope for starving Syrians is being delayed - Merkel wants to be able to quickly deport asylum seekers who commit crimes - More cowardice at a Donald Trump rally - Russia investigates Doctor Death Punch - And more in your CareerSpot World News Briefs:
A planned aid convoy to a besieged village in war-torn Syria is being delayed at least until Monday because of last minute security hitches. There are around 40,000 people trapped in Madaya, a rebel-held town near the Lebanese border. People there are starving to death, or eating pets and grass to survive. Images of emaciated children from the town have added urgency to the situation. The UN World Food Program has convoys standing by to go to Madaya as well as government held villages in the north, Kefraya and Foah.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is proposing changes to immigration law to make it easier to deport asylum-seekers who commit crimes. This is in reaction to the New Year's Eve sex attacks on women in Cologne, in which hundreds of men described as having North African or Arab appearance groped, robbed, and sexually assaulted women outside the main train station while hapless police botched their response. The chief was later forced to retire, and cops have since acknowledged that asylum-seekers were in the mob. The attacks have many Germans calling into question Merkel's open door policy for a million asylum seekers from these lands. The anti-immigration and xenophobic Pegida group called for a demonstration outside the Cologne train station, which was met by an Antifa counter demonstration, which was met by a Feminist demonstration against sex abuse, and police later sprayed water and tear gas at those who got out of control.
The world's biggest coward is the wimp who pepper sprayed Syrian refugees at a welcome event staged in Vancouver on Canada's West Coast. An unknown man on a bicycle sped by a crowd outside the Muslim Association of Canada Center, dousing women and children. "Next thing you know, people are running and screaming, everyone's dashing inside," said Ammar Ramadan who was still inside the building. "A bunch of kids were crying. I was a little confused as to what was happening."
Speaking of cowardice, scumbag under-achieving billionaire Donald Trump's latest rally was a classic case of chicken shyte. A very brave Muslim woman in a hijab and a t-shirt reading "I come in Peace" stood as the rest of the crowd sat down to listen to the xenophobic blowhard rant on about stuff that's never going to happen because he can't be elected president. For her silent, motionless protest, 56-year old Rose Hamid was bum rushed out of the hall while Trump's inbred hick supporters taunted her with shouts like, "You have a bomb! You have a bomb!" Later, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a statement reading, "The image of a Muslim woman being abused and ejected from a political rally sends a chilling message to American Muslims," which was actually reported by the US corporate media.
Mexico is considering extraditing captured drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the United States to face charges for his narcotics network. A senior Mexican law enforcement official says extradition is "very likely" but wouldn't happen right away. In the past, Mexico has insisted on jailing Guzman, in part to prove that it is capable of handling its own law enforcement obligations - but El Chapo's most recent escape from prison from 11 July 2015 to 8 January 2016 may change that view. First off, America's Super-Max prisons are about as secure as prisons can be. Secondly, although he's never been there, Guzman has been named Chicago's "Public Enemy #1" because his drugs are at the heart of a bloody, seemingly-endless gang war on the South and West sides.
It turns out that all police had to do to locate El Chapo during his six months as a fugitive was to follow his ego. He was allegedly working on a bio-pic on his life as the head of the Sinaloa Cartel - apparently inspired by the Netflix series "Narcos", based on the life of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. "He established communication with actors and producers, which formed a new line of investigation," said Mexico's Attorney General Arely Gomez. For now, he's been returned to the Altiplano maximum-security prison from which he escaped in July. Hopefully to another cell without a trap door to a secret tunnel.
Argentina recaptured three men who escaped prison two weeks ago. They were serving time for a notorious triple murder linked to the drugs trade.
Russian police are investigating the death of a 56-year old man who was punched in the head by his doctor inside a hospital in Belgorod, 460 kilometers south of Moscow - and of course it was caught on video. The patient, Yevgeniy Bakhtin, had allegedly earlier kicked a nurse. Investigators believe it is a case of "involuntary homicide" and there was no malicious intent on the part of the doctor, named as Ilya Zelendinov. Looks like a murder on the video.
Thousands of Poles demonstrated against the right-wing government's power-grab over the public airwaves. People marched in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, and Wroclaw. The EU has warned the Polish government that the law to control appointments to public TV and radio stations may violate European Union media standards and could result in sanctions. And even former President Lech Walesa, the plumber who helped defeat Soviet Communism, is opposed to the new media laws.
Ghana is holding the partner of slain Eastenders actress Sian Blake and her two sons. 43-year old Blake, eight-year old Zachary, and four-year old Amon were reported missing on 16 December, and found dead in the garden of their Kent home last week. Cops picked up 48-year old Arthur Simpson-Kent in a touristy coastal area, apparently at the request of UK police. Sian Blake played Frankie Pierre during 1996 - 1997 on Eastenders, and had several more guest-starring roles on UK TV before seguing into a career as a sign-language teacher and interpreter. She was also living with Motor-Neuron Disease, which family members said was the source of her crumbling relationship with Mr. Simpson-Kent.
