Brussels is locked down while security forces hunt down Salah Abdeslam, the fugitive from the 13 November attacks in Paris, who is believed to be armed with a suicide bomb hidden in an oversized jacket and looking for a target. Oh, and he may have friends joining him on this potential attack. The heart of the Belgian capital - which is accustomed to providing tight security for the heads of NATO and Europe - is largely shut down, with the metro and trains, shops and business, all closed while soldiers patrol the streets. NATO military personnel are advised to stay away so as not to become targets. Authorities believe that the Paris Attacks during which 130 people were hatched in Brussels' Molenbeek neighborhood.
Turkey arrested and detained three men in connection with the Paris attacks. One of them is 26-year old Ahmad Dahmani, a Belgian man who Turkish media reports say may have scouted out sites for the 13 November attacks in Paris. He arrived in Turkey a day after the attacks, and was allegedly trying to cross over into Syrian territory occupied by Islamic State.
World leaders are condemning the terrorist attack at a posh hotel in Mali's capital, as police and troops hunt suspects. "Mali will not shut down because of this attack. Paris and New York were not shut down, and Mali won’t be," said President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita during a visit to the Radisson hotel in Bamako, where gunmen linked to Al Qaeda murdered 20 guests. France already has 3,500 troops stationed in Mali, originally to help its former colony contain a rebellion by ethnic Touaregs that morphed into an Al Qaeda insurgency.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will convene his national security committee on Monday, after he returns from the ASEAN summit in Malaysia. "I have remained in the closest possible contact on all of these national security issues at home," Mr Turnbull told reporters in Kuala Lumpur. Officials have kept Oz's terror alert level at high since September of last year.
A 13-year old girl was among four Israelis stabbed in an attack near the football stadium in in the the southern city of Kiryat Gat. An emergency room doctor said all four suffered upper-body stab wounds. Police caught up with a suspect after a four-hour manhunt. But in between, villagers mistook a man in a an Arab Bedouin village for the attacker and beat him bad enough to require hospitalization. Israel is on edge after series of stabbing attacks carried out predominantly by Palestinians.
Two women from South Australia and four Brits were killed in a helicopter crash on Fox Glacier in New Zealand. The Aussies are identified as 27-year-old Leang Sovannmony and 29-year-old Josephine Gibson. Recovery crews had to brave dangerous weather to get to the the wreckage of the downed aircraft, which wound up in a crevasse.
Five people were hurt in a fire on the 50th storey of Chicago's iconic John Hancock building, which is about half-way up the tower. Toxic mud that spilled from the dam burst in Brazil has reached the Atlantic Ocean, causing concerns of spreading pollution. Samarco - which is co-owned by BHP-Billton - maintains the red sludge is harmless, even though it placed inflatable barriers all the way down the Rio Doce in Minas Gerais state to the ocean. Locals are concerned because it is turtle and fish breeding season at the mouth of the river.
