Hello Australia! - The US apparently misses its target and kills more than a dozen aid workers - The Sheriff investigating Oregon's college massacre spouted paranoid conspiracy theories about the victims in another tragedy - Cops raid a Sydney-area mosque after a police employee is murdered - And more in your CareerSpot World News Briefs:

Police raided the Parramatta Mosque as part of the investigation into Friday afternoon's murder of veteran police force accountant Curtis Cheng.  Authorities say they didn't know the alleged gunman, 15-year old Farhad Jabar Khali Mohammad, before the senseless killing outside the Parramatta police headquarters.  The kid died when police officers returned fire.  The gunman's elder sister apparently fled for the Middle East the night before.  The mosque is a only a few blocks from the police station, and the mosque leadership reportedly gave their full cooperation.

The UN says the bombing of a Medecins Sans Frontieres hospital in Afghanistan is "tragic, inexcusable and possibly even criminal".  The US-led NATO Coalition warplanes bombed a MSF facilities in Kunduz , killing at least 19 people including staffers and patients, and leaving 37 badly hurt.  The US military is admitting there may have been "collateral damage" from bombing runs against the Taliban in support of the Afghan government.

This has drawn a strong rebuke from the UN:  "International and Afghan military planners have an obligation to respect and protect civilians at all times, and medical facilities and personnel are the object of a special protection," said UN Human Rights High Commissioner Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, "These obligations apply no matter whose air force is involved, and irrespective of the location."  The UN World Health Organization called on "all governments and military officers to observe their obligations under international law and to ensure the protection of health services in conflict".

But it's not like the US didn't have good reasons to attack the Taliban.  Amnesty International says Taliban fighters are carrying out atrocities:  "The multiple credible reports of killings, rapes and other horrors meted out against the city's residents must prompt the Afghan authorities to do more now to protect civilians, in particular in areas where more fighting appears imminent," said Horia Mosadiq, Afghanistan researcher at Amnesty international.  And Kunduz residents would like to take issue with Afghan government claims that the military has retaken the city from the Taliban.  They're describing street-by-street fighting, watching family members die, and leaving others behind while fleeing to safety in neighboring provinces.

A Palestinian attacker was caught on video stabbing two elderly Israelis to death near the Temple on the Mount complex.  Cops shot and killed him.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is vowing more air attacks in Syria.  He claims his warplanes are attacking Islamic State, the US says the Russians are attacking enemies of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, even US-trained fighters.

Pope Francis can't catch a break on the gay rights issue.  The Vatican stripped a priest of his duties when the man revealed not only that he is gay, but he has a boyfriend.  Polish Monsignor Krysztof Charamsa says he did it - on the even of a Vatican synod on deciding how to welcome LGBT people back into the church - to challenge the Church's "backwards" attitude to homosexuality.  The Vatican calls him "irresponsible".  Last week, anti-LGBT zealots in the US tried to misrepresent Pope Francis' meeting with a rural county clerk who defied the law and refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, resulting in an embarrassing few days before the Vatican finally figured out what happened and distanced itself from the rubes and yokels.

Police are revealing that the gunman who killed nine students at a community college in rural Roseburg, Oregon in the US Pacific Northwest killed himself as police arrived at the horrific scene.  On Thursday, Chris Harper Mercer brought six guns and a flak jacket to class at Umpqua Community College and opened fire, killing eight students and a teacher before turning the gun on himself.  Authorities now say they found eight more firearms at the gunman's apartment.  CNN asked Mercer's British father Ian in Los Angeles about the 26-year'd mental health, and the elder Mercer replied that his son had "to have some kind of issue".

At the news briefing, Douglas County, Oregon Sheriff expressed sympathy for the families of those killed in his jurisdiction last week.  But when a gunman killed 20 little children and six adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in 2012, Sheriff John Hanlin posted a conspiracy theory video on his Facebook page that claimed the earlier tragedy was a "false flag operation" orchestrated to disarm the gun-crazy American public.  Like that would be a bad thing.  The link, with Hanlin's caption questioning if reality can be trusted, was taken down on Friday, but not before normal people saw it and grabbed screen shots.  Hanlin also sent a letter to Vice President Joe Biden vowing to disobey gun control laws.  In short, the man is a complete friggin' idiot.

The death toll in the Guatemalan landslide is at least 56 lives lost, with around 350 people still missing.  Heavy rain on Thursday preceded the slide, which put tons of dirt and rocks onto the village of El Cambray, 15 kilometers from the capital.
