France is sending teams to search the coast of La Reunion island in the western Indian Ocean by air, sea, and land.  They'll look for more debris from Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared 17 months ago with 239 people including six Australians on board.  A piece of the missing Boeing 777's wing was found on the island last week, the first evidence to back up the theory that the Kuala Lumpur to Beijing flight suddenly changed directions and flew into the Indian Ocean.  Objects that appear to be seat cushions and window panes were retrieved from the island yesterday, although it's not confirmed that they are from MH370.

Europe's refugee crisis isn't being caused by the shear volume of refugees - the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees says it's because the nations of Europe lack a coordinated response to deal with it.  "European countries need to work together rather than point fingers at each other," said UNHCR spokesman William Spindler, who added that the UN is "urging European countries to provide more places for refugees through resettlement programmes, family reunification, humanitarian admission, private sponsorship schemes, and work and education visas".  More than 224,000 migrants made it to Europe in the first seven months of the 2015,a pace that's way ahead of the 219,000 that had arrived in the same period in 2014.

Yemeni tribesmen released a French woman after she was kidnapped five months ago.  French President's office says Isabelle Prime is already en route back to France.  She was working as a consultant on a World Bank-funded project when she was abducted in Sana'a on 24 February.  The identity of the kidnappers is not clear, but in recent years tribesmen have kidnapped foreigners as a means of putting pressure on the government to provide them with better services or to release jailed relatives.

The top ten leading republican candidates who want to replace Barack Obama as US President took part in a sad joke of a debate.  Basically, ten yahoos shared the stage to ignore real problems like rising inequality to instead concentrate on abstracts, slogans, and some good old anti-Iran jingoism.  Billionaire businessman-clown Donald Trump sucked all of the air out of the room with grandiose and self-serving statements, and declared himself the winner.  Some of the others managed to say stupid stuff as well:  The unintentionally funniest was former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee who vowed to make prostitutes and pimps pay into Social Security.  Seriously, this is the kind of stuff these guys think the leader of the free world should be concerned with.

The US is offering a US$5 Million reward for information leading to the recapture of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. The fugitive drug lord walked out of Mexico's most-secure prison last month via a tunnel dug udnerneath from a neighboring construction yard.  The US Drug Enforcement Agency believes Guzman, with a personal net worth ofabout a billion dollars, is still in Mexico.

Former Argentine President Carlos Menem cited health reasons for missing the first day of his trial in Buenos Aires.  The 85-year old is accused of obstructing the investigation into the Amia Jewish Cultural Center bombing in 1994.  The terrorist act killed 85 people and injured more than 300.  Iran denies allegations of plotting the bombing, and no one has been broght to justice.

North Korea is alway a bit behind the times, but on 15 August it will be official.  The government announced that all clocks in the country would be wound back a half-hour, signalling the creation of "Pyongyang Time".  The Hermit Kingdom said it was doing this to break with the time standard imposed by what it called "wicked Japanese imperialists" more than a century ago.
