French authorities say shots have been fired in a pre-dawn anti-terror raid in northern Paris, and BFM-TV is reporting that officers are injured.  This is linked to the investigation into last Friday's terrorist attacks that killed 129 people.  People in the northern suburb of St. Denis are being told to stay away from their doors and windows.  Two or three men are believed to have barricaded themselves in an apartment, and residents report the terrifying sounds of automatic gunfire and explosionsSt. Denis is close to the National Stadium where the first of Friday's attacks took place.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and US President Barack Obama met at the APEC summit in the Philippines, with the American chief executive praising Australia for "extraordinary cooperation" in the fight against Islamic State (IS) terrorists.  The two said they were pretty much on the same page when it comes to fighting Islamic State, and pledged to "ramp up" pressure on the terrorist group.  Mr. Obama invited Malcolm to visit him in Washington, something that apparently took the Aussie PM by surprise.

Former All Blacks rugby stay Jonah Lomu is dead at the young age of 40 years.  His legendary career had already been cut short by kidney disease.  "I can confirm that Jonah Lomu died this morning," said former All Blacks team doctor and Lomu family spokesman John Mayhew.  "It was totally unexpected, Jonah and his family arrived back from the UK last night."  Lomu suffered from a rare kidney disorder called "nephrotic syndrome".  He had a transplant in 2004, but his body eventually rejected it, leaving him dependent on dialysis in recent years.
